A shawl wraps its wearer in warmth and is a symbol of the care offered by the shawl maker, Hope Lutheran Church members, and God’s everlasting love and care for all His people. Other items, such as lap robes, pocket prayer patches, scarves, even some bed covers are also crafted by team members. Shawls and other items are given either to persons dealing with life-changing events, both happy and sad, or to local hospice, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities.
Many Hope Lutheran Church members, their families and friends, and persons in the area are dealing with life-changing events. Events such as illness, immobility, grief, loss of any kind. Happy events, such as childbirth, are life-changing as well. Hope members are encouraged to take a prayer shawl or other item from the supply in the Information Hallway and give it to a family member, friend, or other church member as a need arises.
Who can join the Prayer Shawl Ministry?
Anyone who can knit or crochet, or quilt a prayer shawl or other item may join the team. Team members work at their own pace and pray while they’re knitting, crocheting, or quilting. A loving and giving heart, a non-judgmental spirit, and willing hands can join.
What’s the time commitment?
Members of this ministry make a personal time commitment to make items. Team members meet once every two months, usually with a pastor to lead in blessing the shawls and other handmade items.
How do I volunteer?
To volunteer, contact the team leader or the church office.
The team prays for members, friends and family as requested including those on the weekly newsletter prayer lists. When requests are received all members of the team are informed and prayer begins immediately. The team meets at HLC once a month. Learn More “Prayer Team”
